These incredible paper sculptures by Li Honbo are testiment to his roots. Chinese culture is filled with paper, it is used for writing of course, but is also a mainstay in decorations for most celebrations. There are beautiful lanterns for Chinese new year, and many different types of carved paper for year round decoration. Hongbo grew up being surrounded by these facinating everyday objects, there is no doubt that this inspired him from a very young age.
Hongbo takes a traditional art form and pushes it to the edge. This work is so inspiring, I lost more than a few nights sleep trying to figure out how he made these amazing pieces.
